Bhubaneswar: Officials of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs seized foreign currency and gold worth Rs 22.23 lakh from four passengers at Biju Patnaik International Airport here on Sunday.
The officials intercepted four persons hailing from Cuttack, Kolkata and Delhi after they arrived from Bangkok in an Air India flight AI-339.
On conducting thorough search of their baggage, cosmetics, foreign currency and assorted items of gold of foreign origin were recovered from their possession.
The seizure of goods is collectively valued at Rs 22,23,035.
Interrogation of these four arrested persons is underway for further investigation into the matter, an official said.
It may be recalled that gold coins worth Rs 20 lakh was seized from a passenger at the city airport here on March 6. The passenger hailing from Thane in Maharashtra had arrived from Bangkok via Kuala Lumpur in an AirAsia flight AK-31 the previous night.
