Berhampur: Owner of a foreign liquor shop was arrested by the police in Odisha’s Berhampur city for allegedly attacking Excise department personnel and stealing stock seized from the sealed outlet.
The accused, identified as Manoranjan Sabat (48) alias Mitu, was running the shop namely ‘Friends Wine Shop’ near BSNL office under licence of Bandana Sahu. The shop was sealed by Excise Department due to MGQ issues. After its closure, the accused and his staff were selling IMFL illegally from a side room by keeping the stock in the sealed shop.
While the Excise Constable Sabyasachi Mishra was checking the shop on in October, 2024, some sales boys assaulted him and in this connection a case in Berhampur Town Police Station and six 6 accused persons were arrested.
A large number of liquor bottles were seized and the shop was sealed with lock and key and wax seal.
However, when Berhampur Town Police went to the shop for verification on Wednesday, it was found that all seized IMFL stock was stolen by the accused persons who were arrested earlier. As prima-facie evidence was well established, Berhampur Town Police arrested Mitu. Further investigation going on.
