Bhubaneswar: Ever wondered why it takes longer for a letter or parcel to reach when we send it abroad? It is because we do not have a foreign post office in Odisha. Processing for parcels booked in Odisha to be sent abroad is done in Kolkata. So the parcels go to Kolkata first.
But now, the postal department has decided to establish a foreign post office in Odisha, said Odisha Circle Chief Postmaster General Dr Santosh Kumar Kamila. “Customer clearance facilities will be available at the foreign post office, so that the booking procedures can be done easily,” he said.
For fast processing of parcel mail, a national parcel hub has been opened at Bhubaneswar. Besides, seven other parcel hubs have been established in Cuttack, Jajpur Road, Balasore, Sambalpur, Balangir, Berhampur and Jeypore. “For the fast processing of post mail, national sorting hubs have been established at Rasulgarh Postal printing press here and at Rourkela,” Kamila said at a press meet on Monday.
Odisha Postal Circle will open four post offices at Maniabandha, Choramara, Kalarabanka and Byasa Vihar.
After a 30-year gap, Raygada Postal Division has been functional in Odisha circle. Besides, another new postal division, of Rourkela, will start functioning soon, he said.
