Bhubaneswar: The foreign student enrolment in universities in Odisha saw a close to 125 per cent increase in the 2019-20 academic year, said the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) released by the Ministry of Education on Thursday.
According to the report, a total of 1,159 students from foreign countries registered in the higher education institutions of the state. It was an increase of 124 per cent over last year’s enrolment of 516.
With this Odisha moved closer to West Bengal’s foreign student enrolment of 1,211 in the same academic period.
Karnataka was highest in registering foreign students with an enrolment of 10,231 foreign students while Andhra Pradesh registered 2,094 foreign students.
Among 1,159 foreign students in the state and public universities, 780 are male students and 379 female.
As many as 943 students from abroad, including 309 females students registered for undergraduate programmes while 58 students from abroad — 34 male and 24 female students — are pursuing PhD in the state universities.
