Anandpur: A forest officials sustained critical injuries after being attacked by an elephant at Singapur village under Bansapal block in Keonjhar district on Saturday.
The victim identified as Tikeswar Mahanta has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
According to availble information, a herd of 14 elephants had strayed into an agricultural field in the village from a nearby forest area in search of food. Two of them fell into a ditch.
Noticing this, a few locals informed the forest personnel regarding the same.
A team of forest and fire services personnel swung into action and managed to rescue both the animals after a three-hour long effort.
Just after being rescued, one of the elephants attacked the forest official with its trunk before running off into the forested area.
“Condition of Tikayat is stated to be serious. He sustained critical injuries in his chest and the doctors are conducting X-Ray and other tests,” informed Ranger, Bhuian Juanga Peedha Range, Muktikant Parida.
