Sundargarh: While wildfire has wreaked havoc in different parts of Odisha, a vehicle of the Forest department was reduced to ashes in forest fire in Sundargarh district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the locals spotted fire in parts of Bhabanipur forest under Sadar range of the district in the morning and informed the Forest department.
A six-member team of Forest officials went to the forest in a vehicle to douse the fire. Before going inside the forest, they parked their vehicle beside the road on the fringe of the forest.
When they returned after some time, they found their vehicle had caught fire. Before they could do anything to put out the fire, the entire vehicle burnt down.
The Forest officials dismissed the possibility of any foul play in the incident. The forest fire spread fast to the vehicle due to a thick layer of dry leaves on the forest floor, a Forest official said.
