Bhubaneswar: Five days after resigning from Congress, senior leader from Angul district Biplab Jena joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) along with his supporters on Sunday.
Jena, who had resigned from the post of Angul district Congress president and primary membership of the grand old party, joined the regional party as BJD headquarters Sankha Bhavan in Bhubaneswar in the presence of a host of senior leaders.
Senior BJD leaders, including party’s organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das, welcomed Jena and his supporters. Angul MLA and former Deputy Speaker of Assembly Rajanikant Singh was also present.
With the Jena and his supporters joining BJD, the regional party’s organisation has been further strengthened in Angul district, said Das.
A prominent face in political circles of Angul and adjoining areas, Jena had resigned from the primary membership of Congress on Tuesday. His father late Ramesh Jena was MLA from Angul.
