Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance court in Odisha’s Dhenkanal on Monday convicted a former assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police in a corruption case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for two years.
The Vigilance had arrested Muralidhar Prusty, former ASI of Motanga police station in the district while accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a complainant for releasing the truck seized in an accident case. The Vigilance filed the chargesheet in Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal in this regard.
After hearing the case, the court sentenced Prusty to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 6 months, the court ordered.
The Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Prusty following his conviction.
