Former ASI Of Police & VLW Sentenced To RI In Bribe Cases In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A former ASI of police in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district and a former VLW were convicted in separate bribe cases and sentenced to imprisonment on Tuesday.

The Vigilance had arrested Gouranga Charan Satpathy, retired ASI of police of Surapratappur Outpost under Bhuban police station in Dhenkanal for taking bribe from a complainant to release his seized motorcycle and filed the chargesheet.

Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal convicted Satpathy in the case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment  (RI) for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for the offence under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further RI for 6 months.

The court also sentenced him to RI for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for the offence under Section 7 PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further RI for 6 months. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.

In the second case, the Vigilance had filed chargesheet against Ashok Kumar Nayak, retired VLW of Kankadapal panchayat under Sukinda block of Jajpur district for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant for submitting verification report in his favour for allotment of house under Mo Kudia Yojana.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack sentenced Nayak to RI for 2 years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further RI for 6 months more.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of both the convicts.
