Bhubaneswar: Former BJD MLA from Kendrapada Sipra Mallick joined Congress on Thursday ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.
After snapping ties with the ruling BJD, Mallick joined the grand old party in the presence of senior Congress leaders, including former OPCC president Prasad Harichandan.
Mallick had been elected to the Odisha Assembly in 2009 on a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket. Her father Prahlad Mallick was a veteran Congress leader who served as a Minister in the state.
Soon after joining Congress, Mallick said it is an important day for her as she is set to start a new journey with the national party.
To a query on contesting the upcoming elections, she said she has not discussed the issue with the party leaders, though she would like to be in the fray in Kendrapada Assembly seat. If the party gives ticket, she will definitely contest the elections, she added.
