Bhubaneswar: Retired bureaucrat and author Dandanirodha Mishra passed away here early on Tuesday morning. He was 74. He is survived by his wife Usharani, son Subhraranjan and daughter Roopa.
Family sources said Dandanirodha was ailing for some time and breathed his last at 3.10 am at a private hospital, where he was undergoing treatment.
Born to Pandit Bhubaneswar Mishra and Chandramani Devi at Kantilo in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on November 24, 1943, Dandanirodha was one among seven siblings and younger brother of former Khandapada legislator Satyasundar Mishra.
Dandanirodha started his career as a bureaucrat after completing his education from Ravenshaw College and Utkal University. He served the Odisha government with distinction in different capacities for 35 years and retired as Secretary, Labour and Employment department, in 2005. Some of his important assignments included Labour Commissioner, Secretary of Board of Secondary Education and Managing Director of Odisha State Warehousing Corporation.
Dandanirodha was also a noted author and known for his literary works, ‘Basanta Ra Sesha Patra’, ‘Barsa Ra Pratham Nupura’ and ‘Bibidha Ballari’.
Two of his brothers and a sister predeceased him. He is survived by his elder brother Prof Tatwakandar Mishra, formerly Principal, Bhadrak College, and sisters — Sree Mishra (formerly Reader in Physics, Rama Devi Women’s College) and Janhabi Mishra.
Dandanirodha’s wife Usharani was in Odisha Education Service while his son Subhranjan works with the Odisha government as a consultant. His daughter Roopa is an IAS officer.
