Former College Principal Awarded Jail Term In Graft Case In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A retired college principal has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for two years by a special Vigilance court in Odisha for demanding and accepting bribe to issue college leaving certificate (CLC) to a student.

Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack on Thursday pronounced the jail term for former principal Surendranath Mishra and also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him, an official press release said.

The court further ruled that in default of payment of fine convicted Mishra will have to undergo further RI for a period of six months more for the offence under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(D) and 7 of the PC Act, 1988, it said.

The release further said that Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of ex-Principal Mishra following his conviction.
