Bhubaneswar: Three weeks after resigning from the Congress party, former Sundargarh MLA Jogesh Singh formally joined the Biju Janata Dal on Wednesday.
Accompanied by his supporters, Singh arrived at the BJD party office here where he formally joined the BJD in presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The Chief Minister said with the joining of Singh in the BJD, the organization of the party will be strengthened in the western Odisha.
Singh was suspended by the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on January 17 after he did not reply to its show cause notice to clarify the reason for praising the BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
A day after his suspension, Singh had resigned from the Congress and conveyed his decision in a letter to the Congress president Rahul Gandhi and OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik.
