Former Congress Legislator Nityananda Samantaray Passes Away

Cuttack: Former Congress legislator Nityananda Samantaray passed away at his residence in Rajabagicha here on Friday. He was 86.

He is the father of Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debasish Samantaray (BJD).

Born at Kolar village in undivided Cuttack district, on April 25, 1933, Nityananda was elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly from Tirtol constituency in Jagatsinghpur district as a Congress candidate in 1985.

Samantaray was also associated with various educational institutions. He was the president of Jagatpur High School, Samantarapur High School and governing body member of Tirtol College.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Samantray and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

People from all walks of life including senior leaders of Congress expressed grief over his death.
