Paikmal: A former policeman was chased and attacked with a sword by an unknown man at the Paikmal market in Bargarh in broad daylight on Saturday, leaving him grievously injured and bleeding.
The incident has spread fear among residents here.
Police identified the former policeman as Gopal Sa. His attacker is yet to be arrested. Police are trying to ascertain his identity.
The incident took place at Paikamal market. Police said that Shah was suddenly attacked by a man armed with a sword. When Shah tried to escape and started running, the attacker chased and attacked him repeatedly with the sword.
Sa suffered grievous injuries to his left hand, back and right leg. He was rushed to Padmapur hospital in a serious condition, from where he was shifted to Bargarh hospital.
