Bhubaneswar: Bittihotra Mohanty alias Bitti, son of former DGP Bidya Bhusan Mohanty, was on Thursday released from jail after Rajasthan High Court granted him relief in parole jumping case.
Bitti, who was lodged at Jaipur Central Jail in Rajasthan, was granted conditional bail by the Supreme Court earlier on March 31 in connection with a rape case, but he could not be released as the parole jumping case was sub-judice.
Bitti was arrested for raping the German woman in a hotel at Alwar in March 2006 and later convicted for the offence.
In November 2006, he was granted 15-day parole to visit his ailing mother. But he jumped the parole and did not turn up within stipulated time.
Bitti was later arrested by Kerala Police on March 2013, when he was working as a probationary officer in the State Bank of Travancore with a fake identity.
