Chandigarh: A day after resigning as Haryana Chief Minister, BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday announced his resignation as MLA from Karnal constituency, which he represented since 2014.
Khattar’s resignation precedes the anticipated release of BJP’s second list of candidates soon for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Speculations are rife that Khattar may contest from the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency.
Khattar and his 13 cabinet ministers submitted their resignations on Tuesday, after which the BJP named Haryana’s state party unit chief Nayab Singh Saini as the new Chief Minister. The move terminated BJP’s alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) led by Dushyant Chautala.
The BJP and the JJP had formed a post-poll alliance in 2019 after the saffron party won 40 seats, six short of a majority. The JJP had won 10 seats.
Meanwhile, the Saini government won the confidence motion in the Haryana assembly through a voice vote today. A two-hour discussion took place on the motion.
The BJP has decided to contest all 10 Parliamentary seats in Haryana. In 2019, the saffron party had won all seats. BJP’s alliance with JJP collapsed as the latter wanted to contest two Lok Sabha seats.
