The election for the post was held for the first time in more than five decades after the members failed to reach on a consensus.

Kokje outnumbered incumbent Raghava Reddy after he got 131 votes against Reddy who got 60. A total of 192 delegates of VHP were eligible to vote which was held on Saturday in Gurgaon. Reddy was being supported by Pravin Togadia.
