Former India Pacer Salil Ankola’s Mother Found Dead In Her Flat

Pune: Tragedy struck Salil Ankola, former Team India pacer-turned-actor, on Friday.

His mother was found dead at her Pune home with her throat slit, PTI reported.

The 77-year-old Mala Ashok Ankola’s lifeless body was discovered by a maid in her flat on Prabhat Road in Deccan Gymkhana area this afternoon.

“The incident came to light after her maid went to the flat and alerted relatives after no one answered the door. When the door was broken open, the woman was found dead with her throat slit,” a police official was quoted as saying by PTI.

“Prima facie, it looks like the injuries are self-inflicted. However, we are probing the case from all angles,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Sandip Singh Gill.

It was learnt that the septuagenarian was suffering from some mental ailment.

Ankola played one Test and 20 ODIs between 1989 and 1997 before focusing on acting.

He featured acted in a number of films and TV serials.
