Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court sentenced a former Inspector of Supplies to rigorous imprisonment for 2 years in a disproportionate assets case.
The Odisha Vigilance had filed the chargesheet in the case against Ch Shyam Sundar Patra, retired Inspector of Supplies of R Udayagiri in Gajapati district for possession of disproportionate assets to his known sources of income.
After hearing the case, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Patra under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment of fine, the convict has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 1 month.
The Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Patra.
AK Pradhan, former DSP, Vigilance, Berhampur Division had investigated the case and Surendra Panda, Special Public Prosecutor, PK Dora, Additional Special PP and Diptimayee Behera, Assistant PP, Vigilance, Berhampur jointly conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
