Brahmapur: Four persons, including the brother of former Brahmapur Mayor Siba Shankar Das alias Pintu Das, have been arrested for allegedly assembling with a pistol to plan criminal activities ahead of the festive season.
Besides ex-Mayor Siba Shankar’s brother Chandra Sekhar Das alias Pinku Das (44), the arrested persons have been identified as Kailash Mahanty alias Budu (49), Situn Sahu (25) and Debashish Patro (30), all residents of Brahmapur. The accused were forwarded to court on Tuesday.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by SI G.R. Das raided a house near Gosaninuagaon Main Road at around 6 pm on September 14. The operation was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent government witnesses.
Police seized a silver-coloured pistol with golden grips and trigger, without a magazine, along with Rs. 66,720 in cash, two Royal Enfield motorcycles and four mobile phones, including an iPhone 16, OPPO handset, Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 and Samsung A35 5G.
A case has been registered at Gosaninuagaon police station vide Case No. 354 dated September 14, 2026, under Sections 111 and 3(5) of the BNS read with Section 25(6) of the Arms Act.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the alleged assembly and the source of the pistol, police said.
