Puri: Former minister and senior leader of BJD Samir Ranjan Das was shown by black flag by the locals during a visit to his constituency in Odisha’s Puri district on Sunday.
According to sources, Das had gone to Bedpur under Gop block in the district to inaugurate a project in the morning. As he along with some of his followers arrived at the spot, some villagers welcomed him and took him in a procession to the project site.
On the way, a group of BJD workers belonging to dissension faction in the party raised slogans against Das and showed black flag to him. They were joined by some BJP workers.
Raising slogans of “Samir Das go back”, the members of BJD’s dissenting faction burnt an effigy of the former minister. The unrest prevailed throughout the procession of Das that continued for more than half an hour.
However, the police deployed there brought the situation under control by keeping the protesting people from going closer to Gop MLA.
