Bhubaneswar: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Simantini Jena resigned from the party on Thursday ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.
Simantini, a former Odisha BJP Mahila Morcha president, sent a letter to state party president Manmohan Samal conveying her decision to resign from the primary membership of the saffron party with immediate effect.
Describing the prevailing atmosphere in the party as ‘suffocating’, the senior leader said it has become difficult for her to continue with BJP any longer.
“Leaving BJP with a heavy heart,” said Simantini, who was actively associated with the saffron party for the last 27 years discharging a number of organisational responsibilities. She had also held the post of state secretary of BJP in Odisha.
