Bhubaneswar: Former bureaucrat and noted writer Gopinath Mohanty passed away here on Monday after battling COVID-19 for the last some days. He was in his seventies and is survived by his wife and former Koreir MLA Sanchita Mohanty and two sons.
Mohanty started his career as an OAS officer and served in various capacities with the Odisha government before being promoted to IAS (1989 batch). He served as collector of Dhenkanal and Angul districts and then held the positions of secretary of culture and information and publication relations department.
He was also a known writer, literary organiser and researcher on Jagannath. He was also president of Vyasakabi Fakir Mohan Sansad.
State BJP president Sameer Mohanty mourned his death, describing him as a “multi-talented person who will always be remembered”.
