Bhubaneswar: Former chief minister of Odisha Giridhar Gamang joined Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) welcomed him to the party at a function in the capital city. Besides Gamang, his son Shishir Gamang, former minister Jayaram Pangi, former Congress MLA of Dhenkanal Naveen Nanda and Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) leader Akshay Kumar also joined the BRS.
Earlier in the day, Gamang along with his wife Hemabati Gamang and 18 leaders from Odisha boarded a chartered flight for Hyderabad from Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, around 300 people from Odisha have left for Hyderabad to join BRS. Some people left in four luxury buses and trains on Thursday while 10 others left on Bhubaneswar-Hyderabad daily flight in the morning.
Both Giridhar Gamang and his son resigned from the primary membership of the BJP on Wednesday. They had joined the saffron party in 2015 after quitting Congress. The senior Gamang may lead the party as Odisha unit president in the 2024 elections.
