Former Odisha CM Hemananda Biswal’s Daughter Sunita Joins Congress, Cites Reason For Quitting BJD

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s Odisha visit, Sunita Biswal, daughter of former Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal, joined Congress on Thursday.

Sunita formally joined the party in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das and other senior leaders.

Her induction into Congress took place a day after she resigned from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday.

Coming down heavily on BJD, Sunita alleged that the regional party’s tall claims about empowering women was hollow and meant for misleading people.

Stating that she did not get adequate opportunities in BJD to serve the people, she said several other women leaders have also quit the regional party for similar reasons.

Accusing BJD of having treated her like a stepchild, Sunita said many party leaders are not allowed to express their views on important issues. “I am happy to be back in Congress, my real political family,” she said.
