Mayurbhanj: Former Odisha minister and ex-Udala MLA Golak Bihari Naik died at a nursing home at Baripada in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj on Wednesday. He was 65.
According to sources, Naik was suffering from a kidney-related ailment. He arrived at the hospital for dialysis this morning. However, he breathed his last at the hospital at around 10 am.
His mortal remains were taken to his farmhouse at Betnoti. His last rites will be performed at Budheirana village under Badasahi block, the sources added.
Naik began his political career with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and later joined the ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
He was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2000 and 2004 as a BJP candidate from Khunta constituency and later in 2014 from Udala constituency as a BJD nominee. He lost the election in 2019 from Jhasipur.
He had served as minister of the Textiles, Fisheries and Animal Resources in the BJD-BJP coalition government.
