Bhubaneswar: After prolonged illness, former minister Haraprasad Mahapatra breathed his last at his residence in the Odisha capital on Wednesday. He was 97.
He was twice elected from Soro Assembly constituency in 1967 and 1977 as a Swatantra Party and Janata Party candidate respectively.
He was the Law Minister and also in-charge of Cooperation, Urban Development and Panchayati Raj Departments in the Odisha government from 1967 to 71.
Mahapatra was editor of ‘Swarajya’ from 1971-74. He also formed Labour Organisation in 1964 and was the secretary of the Orissa Motor Transport Workers’ Union, Balasore.
