Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha MLA Kangali Charan Panda passed away on Friday night following a cardiac arrest. He was 77. He breathed his last at his residence in Nayapalli area here.
Panda collapsed and lost consciousness in the morning, family sources said.
His body will be brought to the Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, where political leaders and people from all walks of life can pay their last respects.
He hailed from Garipur village under Bahadalapur panchayat of Rasulpur block in Jajpur district.
Panda, a key associate of late Chief Minister Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, was elected to the State Legislative Assembly as an Independent candidate from Dharmasala Assembly Constituency in Jajpur district in 1980. He won the seat for a second consecutive term on a Congress ticket in 1985.
