Rourkela: Former powerlifter Madhulita Rout (45) passed away due to COVID-19 at Rourkela on Monday. According to sources, she was undergoing treatment for COVID at IGH’s Super Specialty Hospital.
Madhulita was a National gold medalist in powerlifting. She was the only powerlifter in SAIL, who represented SAIL-RSP in powerlifting competitions many times, and had been awarded by the Chief Minister of Odisha.
Madhulita was working as a senior Field Assistant (Protocol Hospitality) in SAIL-RSP.
She is survived by her husband Ashok Kumar Prasad, who is a National level Weightlifter, and son Amit Kumar.
Madhulita’s brother Ajay Rout is a senior Executive Assistant, MM-RSP, and also National Silver Awardee and best East Zone player in basketball.
“I knew Madhulita since her childhood as a talented powerlifter. She won several medals for our organisation. We express our heartfelt condolences to her family,” said Bimal Kumar Bisi, General Secretary of Steel Executive Federation of India (SEFI).
SEFI has demanded all service and compensation to the kin of deceased employees, who died due to COVID-19. It has also been demanding a corpus fund of Rs 50 crore to be distributed equally among the dependants of deceased employees of SAIL.
