Former PACS Secretary Gets 2-Year Jail Term In Graft Case In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A special Vigilance court has convicted a former Secretary of Panchamahala Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) in Odisha’s Sonepur district in a corruption case.

Special Vigilance court, Balangir convicted Jugal Kishore Mishra and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.

In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of three months more, a Vigilance release said on Thursday.

Mishra was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to issue tokens in his favour for selling paddy at Panchamahala PACS.

The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year and to pay a fine of Rs 3,000 for the offence under Section 7 of the PC Act, 1988.

Both the sentences are to run concurrently.

Vigilance will move the competent authority for the stoppage of the pension of Mishra, the release added.
