Islamabad: Pakistan’s former Interior Minister Rehman Malik succumbed to COVID-19 on Wednesday.
The 70-year-old Malik, on ventilator support after suffering from COVID-related complications, has been in hospital since early February.
A senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader, Malik was the federal Interior minister from 2008 to 2013 in the PPP-headed government.
He was very close to former Pakistan PM Benazir Bhutto and played a key role in the investigation into her assassination.
Pakistan reported 43 deaths and 744 COVID cases on Wednesday.
