Bengaluru: Former Lok Sabha MP and suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of ex-Induan Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, has been assigned a prisoner number at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central prison, jail authorities said on Sunday.
A day after being sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case, Revanna was officially allotted prisoner number, or Qaidi No. 15528 on Sunday, PTI reported.
The 34-year-old Revanna, lodged in a high-security cell, is being provided enhanced security. He has been made to follow standard dress code for convicts and wear the uniform given to prisoners.
On his first night in jail, Revanna broke down and appeared visibly distressed. Prison doctors assessed his health late on Saturday night to check if his medical condition was stable.
“He broke down during the medical check-up and expressed his anguish to the staff,” a senior official said.
Prajwal has reportedly told the prison staff that he will approach the high court challenging his conviction.
A special court for MPs/MLAs sentenced Revanna to life imprisonment, and slapped a fine of Rs 11.5 lakh on him, of which Rs 11.25 lakh has to be paid to the victim, a domestic help of the accused’s family.
