Cuttack: The Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore on Wednesday convicted former constable of Bisam Katak Police Station of Odisha’s Rayagada Kunja Kishore Padhi and sentenced him to three years of rigorous for posing as Inspector Vigilance and taking a bribe.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for his dismissal from service, a statement from Odisha Vigilance Directorate stated.
The conviction was based on a charge sheet filed against Padhi with Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore for impersonating as a Vigilance Inspector and demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a complainant to show official favour and suppress enquiry against his spouse, a government employee.
The ex-constable was on Wednesday convicted under Section 8 and 9 of Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988. He was sentenced to imprisonment for three years and a fine of Rs 10,000, on default of which, he would have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for three months.
The Special Judge Court also convicted him under Section 419/420 of Indian Penal Code and sentenced him to an imprisonment of one year and a fine of Rs 5,000. In case of default of payment of fine, the court ordered further rigorous imprisonment for a period of three months.
All the sentences are to run concurrently, the court said.
