Jajpur: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday arrested former principal and former president of Chitalo Degree College in Jajpur district on charges of embezzling more than Rs 32 lakh government funds intended for a girls’ self-defence training programme.
The accused, Adwaita Prasad Mallick, a former principal and current lecturer in Odia at the college, and
Badri Narayan Ray, the former president of the institution’s governing body, were taken into custody following an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of Rs 32,07,620.
According to a Vigilance release, the funds, allocated for empowering female students through self-defence initiatives at the college, were allegedly diverted for personal gain.
A case was registered against the duo on December 31, 2025, at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018, as well as Sections 409 and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to criminal breach of trust and conspiracy.
While both were produced before the court, further investigation is underway into the financial irregularities.
