Bhubaneswar: In a shot in the arm for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Rajgangpur municipality chairman Purna Chandra Rout joined the saffron party on Monday.
Rout joined BJP along with his supporters at the state party headquarters in Bhubaneswar in the presence of senior leaders, including MP and former Union Minister Jual Oram and former state party chief K V Singhdeo.
After being welcomed by the senior BJP leaders, Rout said he decided to join the saffron party as he was inspired by the slew of development and welfare programmes launched by the Narendra Modi government in the last ten years.
While the country is marching ahead on the path of progress and prosperity, Odisha continues to languish due to ‘misrule’ of the BJD government headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, he claimed.
