Sambalpur: A Special Vigilance Court has sentenced a former revenue inspector (RI) to 2-year rigorous imprisonment in a bribe case in Odisha’s Baragarh district.
Following a complaint that Pian Mirdha, former RI of Jhilminda under Attabira block of the district was demanding bribe for submitting a verification report to the tehsildar for conversion of agricultural land to homestead land, the Vigilance had caught him accepting the illegal gratification and arrested him.
After the Vigilance submitted the chargesheet against Mirdha, Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur convicted Mirdha in the case under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of PC Act, 1988 and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment of fine, the former RI has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 6 months more.
The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 1 year and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 7 of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 3 months. Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the Court ruled.
