Bhadrak: In a major breakthrough in the alleged murder of former Sarpanch and Ambaroli Cooperative Society president in Odisha’s Bhadrak, police recovered his bike from a nearby village on Thursday after locals spotted it.
After the bike was retrieved from the pond with the help of fire service personnel, locals confirmed that it belonged to the slain ex-sarpanch.
The sarpanch, identified as Chitta Ranjan Rout, was allegedly murdered when he was on his way home after attending a religious programme at Bandhagaon village in Bhadrak district on Tuesday night.
Sources said the murder took place when Rout was returning home after attending an ‘Asta Prahari’ programme. As he failed to reach home, his family members made a frantic search for him. His blood-soaked body was found lying near a canal.
Notably, his bike, mobile phone, and footwear were missing, but Rs 1700 in cash was found in his pocket.
According to preliminary findings, the deceased suffered multiple fatal injuries, including severe head trauma and lacerations across his body, suggesting a vicious attack that ultimately led to his tragic demise.
While investigation by police is underway, the motive behind the alleged murder is yet to be ascertained.
