Former SBI Asst Manager Held For Fraud In Odisha

Cuttack: A former assistant manager of State Bank of India (SBI) here was arrested for alleged fraud worth lakhs of rupees.

Accused Chandra Bhanu Rout was serving at the Chandi Chowk branch of the bank in 2020 when he fraudulently withdrew over Rs 16 lakh from two matured fixed deposits of a customer and transferred the amount to several bank accounts belonging to him and his relatives, police sources said.

The fraud came to the fore in an internal audit and after departmental proceedings, Raut was suspended from services. He had been absconding since then. His last posting was as manager of the Tulasipur branch.

He was finally arrested from Baula Square by tracking his mobile phone and a car and a scooty brought by Rout with the siphoned money were seized, the sources added.
