Guwahati: Tarun Gogoi, who served as Assam Chief Minister from 2001 to 2016, passed away on Monday due to multi-organ failure at the age of 84.
Congress veteran Gogoi was administered plasma therapy after testing coronavirus positive in late August. Even after testing negative, he suffered post-COVID complications.
He was put on non-invasive ventilation on November 2, but his condition deteriorated on Saturday afternoon as he became unconscious with difficulty in breathing.
Gogoi, first elected CM in 2001, led Congress to victory in three consecutive state Assembly elections.
