New Delhi: Preeti Sudan, a 1983-batch IAS officer, will take charge as the Chairperson of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Thursday ( August 1).
She has been appointed to the post for a period of 8 months till April 29, 2025, an official release said.
She is currently a member of the Commission and her elevation follows the exit of UPSC Chairman Manoj Soni, who resigned earlier this month citing personal reasons almost five years before expiry of his tenure in May 2029, amid controversies and allegations surrounding selection of probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar.
Sudan had retired as Union Health Secretary in July 2020. The Andhra Pradesh cadre officer had also served as Secretary, Department of Food & Public Distribution and also in the ministries of Women & Child Development and Defence. She is credited with steering the flagship ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and ‘Ayushman Bharat’ missions.
