Berhampur: Former Union Minister and Congress leader Chandrasekhar Sahu joined BJD with 20,000 supporters at the Mishran Parv at Berhampur in presence of party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday.
Bikram Panda and Bhagaban Gantayat, who had resigned from the Congress party on March 29 along with the former Union Minister, also joined the BJD.
Welcoming the inductees, the Chief Minister hoped that they will strengthen the party organisation and work for the development of Odisha.
Highlighting the public welfare schemes introduced by the government, the Chief Minister said, “Steps are being taken to provide land to the landless. Slum dwellers’ role is important in urban development.”
Ministers, MPs and MLAs of the district were present on the occasion.
During his visit to Ganjam district, the CM laid the foundation stones of 62 projects at Hinjili. Earlier in the day, he also inaugurated the Mahendra Tanaya bridge at Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district. The new bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 7.35 crore.
Tight security arrangements were put in place in both the districts for the CM’s visit.
