Former Union Minister Manoj Sinha, New J&K Lt Governor

New Delhi: Former Union minister Manoj Sinha has been appointed as Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, a day after GC Murmu resigned from the post.

Sinha was Telecom minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government between 2014 and 2019. He was BHU student union leader and won Lok Sabha elections twice from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. But he lost in 2019 election.

Union ministers Jitendra Singh and Prakash Javadekar have congratulated Sinha for the new responsibility. “Spoke to Shri @manojsinhabjp ji and congratulated him on being appointed as Lieutenant Governor of #JammuAndKashmir. He carries with him a rich combination of both political as well as administrative experience,” Singh tweeted.

Murmu resigned on Wednesday night, one year after the state of Jammu and Kashmir was converted into two Union territories, the other one being Ladakh. A Rashtrapati Bhawan communique on Thursday morning said Murmu’s resignation has been accepted.
