New Delhi: Former Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen (Retd) Chandi Prasad Mohanty has been appointed as an Administrative Member of Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT).
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet on November 15 approved appointment of 11 judicial members and 12 administrative members of AFT for a period of four years from the date of assumption of charge or attaining the age of 67, whichever is earlier.
Mohanty is a recipient of Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal.
A native of Jayabada village of Jagatsinghpur district, he was the first Odia to take admission in Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) at Dehradun. Later, he joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Rajput Regiment.
Mohanty served as General Officer Commanding in-chief, Southern Command and General Officer Commanding of Uttar Bharat area. He was active in the counter-insurgency operations in Assam and had led a multinational UN brigade to diffuse the bloodiest civil war in Congo.
