Baripada: Former tehsildar of Shamakhunta in Mayurbhanj district, Sabita Sahoo has been convicted in a bribe case and sentenced to 1-year rigorous imprisonment by Vigilance court.
Vigilance officials had caught Sabita taking the bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant red-handed for granting permission to manufacture 5 lakh bricks in Mahulia under Shamakhunta tehsil in 2014.
After hearing the case, the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada on Friday convicted Sabita for the offence under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 1 year and pay fine of Rs 5,000. In default of payment of fine, she has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 1 month.
The court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and pay fine of Rs 10,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 2 months for the offence under another section of the Act. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
