New Delhi: A government employee, working as Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in the Ministry of Defence, was found dead at her home in Delhi’s Dwarka.
What made the tragedy even more heartbreaking was that the 30-year-old Naziya Khanam was three months pregnant. She had married Azam Ali Khan just over four months ago, on April 11.
Naziya, rushed to a hospital in an unresponsive condition after being found hanging on Friday, was declared dead on arrival.
No suicide note was found.
Her family has alleged that Naziya was being repeatedly abused and physically assaulted by her husband and in-laws.
Her family has alleged that Naziya was subjected to continuous mental and physical harassment by her husband and in-laws.
Police have registered a case under Sections 85 and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to cruelty by a husband or his relatives and abetment of suicide, respectively.
Investigation is underway.
Naziya’s husband told police that there was an argument between the couple before the incident. Azam claimed that Naziya locked him inside a room and went into another room. Azam further told police that he called their landlord, who came to the balcony and helped him out using a ladder.
He then apparently looked through a window and found Naziya hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta.
Naziya’s family didn’t agree with Azam’s version, and raised questions about her death. They suspect that she was murdered and there was an attempt to pass the crime off as suicide.
Naziya’s father Tawab Khan held the husband responsible for her death and demanded legal action against him.
Both Towab and his son recorded statements before Executive Magistrate Dinesh Rana in Bijwasan.
