Keonjhar: Four persons have been arrested in Keonjhar town for allegedly circulation fake news on social media.
They have been identified as Manas Kumar Mohanta, Suryanaryan Ghana, Trilochan Barik and Jitu Pradhan.
According to police sources, Manas had edited a TV grab about the first positive case from Bhadrak and shared it in one of his groups, claiming that a COVID-19 case had been identified in Keonjhar district.
The picture then went viral and created panic among the people of Keonjhar town.
The news channel later filed an FIR against it. Following which, police traced the fake news to the four and arrested them on Sunday.
They have been booked under various sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897 for spreading rumours, the sources added.
