Cuttack: In a major breakthrough, the central excise intelligence officials on Wednesday seized more than 1 quintal of ganja at OMP Square here and arrested four persons.
Those arrested were identified as Pratap Dutta and Puspa Das, hailing from West Bengal, and Subham Sahu and Kanhu Nayak of Cuttack. They have been forwarded to court.
Following a tip-off, the official intercepted an auto-rickshaw in which the accused were transporting the contraband. The ganja was being smuggled to West Bengal from Phulbani, sources said.
The market value of the seized contraband has been estimated to be around Rs 6 lakh, the sources added.
On June 30, police had seized over a quintal of ganja and arrested seven persons carrying the narcotics in Koraput district.
A night police patrolling team intercepted two cars near Padua and seized the banned substance after searching both the vehicles. The ganja was reportedly being transported from Padua to Angul district.
