Kathua: Four Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, including two officers, were killed in a major case of fratricide at a camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Tuesday evening.
A head constable allegedly opened fire from his service weapon after an argument with a colleague, an official said. The cause of the argument is not known as yet.
The incident occurred around 6.40 pm at the camp of the CISF unit deployed at the Sewa-III Power Project in Mashka village in Basohli. This is a hydroelectric power station located in the village on the Sewa River, a tributary of the Ravi.
Those killed have been identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constable Rafiq Ahmed and Constable Sandeep Kumar.
The suspected shooter, identified as Head Constable Avdesh Kumar Singh, allegedly entered the office premises and opened indiscriminate fire with his issued AK-47 rifle. He was carrying 150 rounds of ammunition, according to the CISF, as reported by NDTV.
The four injured personnel were taken to the National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) hospital in Himachal Pradesh, where they died of their injuries later.
The police reached the site and secured the area. The accused Head Constable has been arrested.
Both police and CISF officials are investigating the circumstances leading to the shooting. Other personnel present in the area are being questioned. The accused will also be interrogated by a joint team.
