Dubai: The weekend in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will begin on Friday afternoon, from January 1, 2022.
The transition to a four and half-day working week starting next year is aimed at better aligning the economy of the oil-producing Gulf state with global markets, Reuters reported.
With this, UAE has become the first nation in the world to introduce a national working week shorter than the global five-day week.
“The extended weekend comes as part of the UAE government’s efforts to boost work-life balance and enhance social wellbeing while increasing performance to advance the UAE’s economic competitiveness,” official news agency WAM stated.
